Best Lip Stains for Long-Lasting Colour

As a makeup artist, my days are long. I spend hours perfecting other people’s makeup, but when it comes to my own, reapplying throughout the day often isn’t on the cards. That’s why I’m obsessed with a good lip stain. Effortless, long-wearing colour that stays put – without touch-ups. Whether you’re after a natural look, or something bold, a good lip stain will keep you looking fresh all day. So, let’s dive into my top picks – from cult classics to viral sensations – I’ve also included the best tips for prepping your lips for the perfect stain!

Benefit Cosmetics | Bene Tint

The OG. Does this product really need an introduction?! Fun fact, the formula was originally created for stripper’s nipples in the 1970s… it was so loved that it was used on lips and cheeks too! Super light weight, buildable and lasts for hours. Forever a favourite.

Who else has seen the weird and wonderful blue lip stain peels trending on TikTok?! If so, you’ve probably come across Wonderskin. This is a product that’s worth the hype. The innovative formula allows you to see exactly where you’re applying the product with the vibrant blue and then peels away to the most gorgeous colours. Super long lasting!

Ok, you’ve probably picked up on my love for lip stains… but the only thing I don’t like about them is the potential they have to dry out your lips. This is why I love the Hude Creamy Lip Stain – super rich pigment but with a lovely, soft, nourishing texture.

Fenty just always hit the mark! This stain is an amazing hybrid between a gloss and a stain. Mega vibrant but settles into a tint without sacrificing on hydration. Love the shade Fushia Wife!

As with all e.l.f. products, so affordable without compromising on quality. Non-sticky and very lightweight – so perfect for those who want a more natural colour.

Why does a felt-tip applicator bring me so much joy?! This applies in seconds and stays put all day. Would say this one is more for the BOLD lip lovers –  loveeeee these shades for night time looks.

Tips!

Ok so those are my top products, but here are a few product recommendations to make sure you get the most over your lip stains… just don’t forget, exfoliate and hydrate! Repeat after me, exfoliate, hydrate!!!

Exfoliators:

Exfoliating your lips before applying a lip stain will help it sit better on the lips by giving you a lovely smooth base for application. Here are some of my faves:

·      Fresh –  Sugar Lip Polish: Packed with brown sugar to exfoliate, paired with shea butter and jojoba oil to nourish your lips. Absolute perfect balance of exfoliation and hydration!

·      Tatcha – The Kissu Lip Scrub: A slightly more luxurious scrub. I love this jelly-texture, infused with Japanese peach seed powder and squalane, so gentle and leaves lips feeling soft without the harshness of a sugar srub.

·      DIY Scrub: Are you on a spending ban like me?! Don’t worry, I gotcha! Simply mix equal parts brown sugar, honey, and coconut oil for a quick, natural exfoliator. Great for your lips and the planet!

 Lip Masks:

Don’t let your lips become dry and pop on a hydrating mask over night:

·      Laneige – Lip Sleeping Mask: Do I really need to tell you about this product?! Viral for a reason. Full of hyaluronic acid – it makes your lips look so plump and moisturised. Perfect lip stain prep!

·      Lanolips – 12 Hour Overnight Lip Mask: This is like the most extreme lip mask. For when your lips are super chapped, it’s a godsend. Made with lanolin, shea butter, and vitamin E, works like a dream. This is such a hero product if you get cold sores too!

·      Fenty Skin – Plush Puddin’ Intensive Recovery Lip Mask: Is it kind of bad that I want to eat this?! Coconut and pomegranate…smells like heaven! Also does wonders for evening out lip skin texture.

Final tip, if you’re on a budget or trying to cut back on buying this year, instead of purchasing something new, try buffing your fave lipstick over your lips with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Pat down with a tissue to remove excess and mattify. It won’t quite last like a lip stain but gives the same soft look.

Ok, that’s my ultimate list of favourite lip stains. Tried and tested over many years! I can’t wait to hear what you guys think and as always, if I’ve missed one you love, let me know!

Love,

Lisa xx
