April Showers
April has arrived – and although the London sun is currently making a rare and glorious appearance, let’s be honest… we all know what’s coming. April showers are inevitable. But rain, sweat, humidity… whatever life throws at us… doesn’t mean your makeup has to melt off by midday. So, I’ve pulled together my go-to waterproof and water-resistant heroes. These products are ideal not only for a surprise downpour, but also for the gym, long days on set (tried and tested by me as a makeup artist!), festival season, and those sweaty commutes (ugh, we’ve all been there). Basically, they stay put no matter what…
Let’s start off with the most important product. Rain or shine, SPF is non-negotiable. You’ve heard me talk about this product for years. As a swimmer, this one’s brilliant - it’s water-resistant, non-greasy, and sinks in fast. Bonus: It works beautifully under makeup too. The only problem with this product for me is that I can’t keep it in stock in my house fast enough (um, hello, my half-Scottish husband!).
This setting spray is the real deal. It locks in makeup for up to 12 hours and leaves your skin looking gorgeously dewy – not drenched and shiny. Use after foundation, and again top tip, apply again once the full face is done, for that extra staying power. It’s hydrating, alcohol-free, and a staple in my kit.
This baby is a high street classic for a reason! This mascara gives you amazing full, fanned-out lashes without clumping. Best of all, it doesn’t budge. I’m a big hay fever suffer and trust me, no matter how watery your eyes, this won’t budge! Just don’t forget to remove it gently!
Anastasia isn’t just the queen of brows. This eyeliner is a creamy pencil that glides on like a dream but won’t smudge, even after hours under hot lights. Whether you’re going for a smoky eye or precise definition, this liner is a total pro fave. It’s intensely black and lasts forever.
These cream shadows are an absolute dream. Glides on super smooth but has a budge-proof finish. I love these for a really quick touch of shimmer or layering several colours for some depth. Long-wear, waterproof and zero creasing – what more could you want out of a shadow!
Ok if you don’t have cream shadows and want to keep using your favourite powder pallet. THIS is your best friend. Do I really need to introduce this product?! Absolute cult classic for a reason.
Another product you all know that I love. This little tube is magic and has been a staple in my kit for years. It holds every hair in place without making them crispy or flaky. Great for that laminated brow look.
This lipstick by Pat McGrath is tried and tested swim proof. Sometimes I just want to look fabulous at 6AM in the pool… because why not?! Bold and matte it that stay put through coffee, cocktails, and everything in between. It’s velvety, lightweight, and doesn’t crack or flake. If you’re after a statement lip that won’t disappear by lunchtime, this is it.
Let’s not forget about hair. There’s nothing worse than doing your hair and then stepping out into the rain. This hairspray is the one for me! It offers firm, long-lasting hold without feeling stiff or sticky, and it resists humidity like a pro. Whether you’re doing sleek buns or beachy waves, your hair will stay put.
Okay, okay—if you’re wearing products this long-lasting, your skin deserves something luxurious (and gentle) to take them off. This stuff melts away every trace of makeup - yes, even waterproof mascara – without stripping the skin. It’s packed with nourishing plant oils and smells like a spa day in a bottle.
