Lipstick and I have a love which goes back as far as I can remember. It all began with watching my Nan expertly apply her lipstick without a mirror – she always chose beautiful, bold shades that matched her accessories. As a teenager, I saved up every bit of money I had to collect as many lipstick shades as possible. Now, as a makeup artist, I’ve tried hundreds of lipsticks, but I always find myself returning to the classic red lip. I truly believe that everyone can rock a red lip with the right shade and texture. Lucky for you, you don’t need to try hundreds, as I’ve curated the ultimate list of my top 10 best red lipsticks.
This is the best orangey red lipstick in the land. Although it’s matte, it is lovely and creamy so doesn’t dry out the lips. This colour suits absolutely everyone! I LOVE this in summer, winter, spring, autumn, you get the point.
She is an icon. First released in 1999, as part of Mac’s five-piece Retro Matte lipstick collection, now its the only remaining “original” shade they sell. For a good reason as this lipstick has stood the test of time. It is no surprise that it continues to be one of Mac’s bestsellers. I have lost count of how many of these I own!
Pat McGrath never misses. Firstly, I am OBSESSED with this packaging and the luxurious feel of this lipstick. The payoff of this red is so worth it – it stays put all day but feels conditioning for the lips with an oil-infused formula and soft powder finish.
Dragon Girl is my ideal party red. It is incredibly long-lasting (trust me, I’ve tested it by wearing it on a 12-hour workday turned night out!). This won’t budge OR smudge.
Fenty’s incredibly lightweight formula makes you feel like you’re wearing nothing at all! I love the shape of this wand. I find it is particularly helpful for anyone with slightly thinner lips as it helps you to follow the natural contours of your lips. Super easy to apply.
Budget friendly, Exhilarator, is super affordable without sacrificing on texture, colour or most importantly for a liquid lip – durability! I accidentally wore this for a morning swim after filming and I came home, took a shower and it was still perfect!
My fav neutral red. It is silky, long-lasting and hydrating on the lip. This is one that is consistently in my kit as it suits all skin tones perfectly.
For me, Scarlett Rouge is THE lipstick for that perfect classy “French girl” look. The velvet matte finish has a workable formula which is perfect for a soft edge. Whenever I wear this, I can’t resist dabbing a bit on my cheeks too for matching blush (Seriously guys, you need to try this with your lipstick if you’re not already!).
You know how much I love Vieve’s formulas. This is my top moisturising red lipstick. It is enriched with lip-loving ingredients (including Vitamin E for nourishing and hydrating your lips). I love this finish as although it is matte it doesn’t appear flat! First-date vibes.
Not feeling bold enough to try a super matte lip? Don’t worry girl, I’ve got you. Merit’s satin formula is great for a more subtle look. Perfect for the corporate girlies who want a pop of colour but not something too bright.
