How To Get Long, Thick, Eyelashes!

You all went wild for the ultimate mascara list. Now that you’ve got the best mascaras on the market, let’s talk about how to maintain those beautiful eyelashes. Beyond mascara, lash treatments such as extensions, tints and LVL are incredibly popular.

You might be thinking: “Lisa, what actually is LVL?!” LVL stands for length, volume and lift. The treatment is essentially a perm for your lashes – they are coated in a serum which straightens from the root. A bit confusing but trust me, rather than straightening it gives them a super curled look. This is an amazing way of enhancing your natural lashes and can last 4-6 weeks. So, what’s the catch? Like any chemicals applied to the hair, these treatments can potentially dry out lashes, working against the effect we’re trying so hard to achieve!  But don’t fear—I’ve got some secrets for maintaining, volumizing and caring for your lashes.

RapidShield – Eyelash Daily Conditioner

This product is amazing for nourishing and moisturising lashes. Post LVL or tint, begin using after 48 hours, apply it every day – both morning and night! This routine not only protects and promotes the growth but also extends the longevity of the treatment.  What I particularly love about RapidShield is its wand applicator (as opposed to a brush), which ensures precise application without getting product on the delicate skin around your eyes.

Even if you’re not into treatments, I recommend this product to everyone! Just like you wouldn’t skip conditioning your hair, don’t forget about your lashes.

Ok gurl, it’s time to cuuurl!

As a makeup artist, I would never not have lash curlers in my kit. However, I know some people hesitate to use them, fearing they might accidentally cut their precious lashes. My tip to ensure this never happens to you. First things first: silicone cushion. All good lash curlers should have one. It’s like a little pillow for your lashes. If you ever notice that the cushion is missing or damaged, do not use the curler until you’ve replaced it. Safety first!

One of my favourite curlers by Laura Mercier actually comes with a replacement cushion.

Next, you want to make sure it is clean of any product. Then we’re ready to curl. Start at the tip of your lashes, looking downward. Position the curler. Gently squeeze several times for a couple of seconds before releasing. Repeat this motion, moving as close to the base of your lashes as possible. Be patient – no tugging!

Don’t forget those inner and outer lashes. The Kevyn Aucoin curler is perfect for this as it offers amazing grip. One of my ultimate favs!

Pinching your eyelids with a lash curler must be one of the most painful makeup experiences. So, the final lash curler I want to recommend is by Shisedo. This curler has an edge-free design which reaches even the smallest lashes and prevents pinching. The design is also brilliant for all eye shapes.

In a rush? Don’t forget the brush!

Tweezerman - Shaping Spiral Brow and Lash Brush

After you have your gorgeously curled lashes, remember to brush them through. I love this brush by Tweezerman – it perfectly separates and now you’re ready to apply mascara.

Finally, don’t wake from sleep and weep!

(Lucky this is my last tip – I’m running out of rhymes)

If you’re anything like me, you remove your makeup and settle into bed with the best intentions of sleeping on your back. But somehow, halfway through the night, you find yourself sprawled across the bed, face squished into the pillow. Not ideal for your face or your lashes. I protect mine by using a silk sleep mask designed specifically for eyelash protection.

Drowsysleepco - Eyelash Protecting Silk Sleep Masks Collection

Drowsy Sleep Co are the best you can buy. They make the most gorgeous fully wrap-around silk sleep masks with deep cups which protect your lashes allllll night long.

Don’t forget – condition, curl, brush and sleep well!

Love

Lisa xx
