Budget Beauty: My Top Skincare Picks (That Won’t Break the Bank!)

Last month, in my Budget Beauty series, I shared the best drugstore finds for a full face of makeup. We all know that taking care of our skin is essential, but it doesn’t always have to cost a fortune. So today, I want to share my list of fave affordable skincare products with you all. I’ve put these in order of application to help you easily incorporate them into your routine!

Cleanser - CeraVe - Hydrating Cleanser

Never, ever, skip your cleanser! This cleanser by CeraVe is so hydrating. It’s gentle yet effective, making it ideal for normal to dry skin. I love keeping this in the shower so Theo remembers to use it too!

This is a product I have spoken about for years. There’s a reason Hada Labo Tokyo is the number 1 skincare brand in Japan! Hydration is the key to glowing skin, and this serum is a game-changer. It’s packed with hyaluronic acid to keep your skin plump and moisturised alllllll day long. You only need a pea-sized amount, so it will last you ages.

Guys, I recently found out that one of my sisters loves this product so much that she covers her entire face in it twice a day?! A multi-purpose balm is essential for your routine – this soothes, repairs and protects skin, making it perfect for everything from dry patches to minor irritations. The ingredients include glycerin to hydrate and cicaplast (which features a blend of vitamin B5, shea butter and panthenol) to replenish vitamins and amino acids. I love this for some extra TLC after a long day on set.

I’ll never get over The Ordinary’s price points. Especially for products like this! As a rule, cold-pressed is always best (did that rhyme?!). This is an amazing addition to your nighttime routine. It helps to nourish and repair skin while you sleep. Always apply oil BEFORE your moisturiser to really lock in the good stuff.

Ok I know I just said it about The Ordinary… but The Inkey List is another brand that sells high-quality ingredients for such a low price. This is perfect for brightening under-eyes, reducing puffiness and dark circles. Love keeping one of these in my bag so I can apply it on the train after I’ve rushed out of the house in 5 mins… who needs a coffee anyway?!

For a lightweight yet hydrating option, this is fantastic. It absorbs quickly and leaves your skin feeling soft and supple. Formulated to help protect your skin-barrier. Another plus about this product, that makes it more affordable, is that it’s refillable. Good for you and the environment. David Attenborough would be proud!

Spots are just annoying. For those pesky spots, these patches are a lifesaver. They help to reduce redness and speed up the healing process. They also help with that temptation to squeeze, pick, prod! Listen to me, stick one of these on and DO NOT TOUCH YOUR SPOTS.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, SPF. EVERY. DAMN. DAY. This is another product that I have loved for years. It is a non-perfumed suncream that offers high protection without leaving a white cast.

When doing your skincare, don’t forget about your body too! It’s soothing, gentle and perfect for sensitive skin (I have friends with eczema and psoriasis that all swear by this!). This will keep your skin soft and 500ml will last for ages.

Multipurpose Moisturiser - Weleda - Skin Food

99% of makeup artists have this in their kit bag for a reason. An amazing blend of natural ingredients (lanolin, beeswax and glycerin) work together to repair dry, rough, or stressed skin – plus almond and sunflower oils soften the skin and prevent water loss. The mix of antibacterial rosemary, conditioning calendula, and calming chamomile also protects and nourishes the entire body! I would never be without this product.

Whilst all of these products are fantastic, I understand that they still cost money. So, how about some options using natural ingredients you already have at home? Here are a few DIY masks that are easy to make and super effective:

·      Oat & Honey Mask: Mix 1 tbsp of ground oats with 1 tbsp of pure honey. Apply to your face and leave on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. This mask is great for soothing and moisturising. Oat-standing!

·      Avocado & Yogurt Mask: Mash half an avocado and mix it with 2 tbsp of plain yogurt. Apply to your face and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing off. This mask helps to hydrate skin and leave it baby soft... also, why do I feel like this is something Kourtney Kardashian eats for breakfast?!

Coconut Lip Scrub: Mix 2 tsp of coconut sugar and 1 tsp of coconut oil together until well combined (it should look like wet sand). Using your finger, rub your lips in small circular motions for about 30 seconds and wash off. Best thing about this? If you pop it in a tub and it’ll last in the cupboard for 2 years (but trust me, you’ll love it so much you’ll get through it way before then!).

That’s it for my budget beauty skincare. I love that you can get so many of these products on the high street (Boots, Superdrug – or even your kitchen cupboard). Don’t forget, for anything sold on Cult Beauty you can get 20% off with my code LISA20 making some of these babies even more affordable. Would love to know your favourite budget skincare finds – let me know!

Love,

Lisa xx
